Oculistics

The Ophthalmology Medical Service offers specialist visits and visual examinations with the aim of preventing, diagnosing and treating eye disorders and pathologies. In addition to specialist visits and individual eye exams, it also offers a series of packages for complete eye check-ups.

The Eye Examination

There are two main types of vision checks: the eye examination and the orthoptic examination.

The eye examination allows you to measure distance and near vision, determining visual acuity (expressed in tenths) and the possible presence of visual defects.

During the visit, the ophthalmologist also evaluates the state and integrity of the organs of the eye (i.e. the cornea, the anterior chamber, the lens, the iris, the retina, the vitreous body and the optic disc).

The orthoptic examination allows you to examine the collaboration of the eyes, the ability to focus, convergence and movement. The tests carried out during the orthoptic visit are reported to the ophthalmologist so that he has a complete overview of the patient.

When to Schedule an Examination

To maintain and preserve your visual ability, it is usually recommended to undergo periodic checks, even in the absence of obvious symptoms.

In children up to 14 years of age, in the absence of symptoms, an eye examination is advisable following the favorable opinion of the pediatrician. In particular, pediatric eye examinations at 3 years, 6 years and 12 years are important.

In adulthood it is advisable to have an eye examination depending on your visual needs and general health conditions. Periodic checks should be carried out regularly at all ages and with particular frequency after the age of 40 to evaluate the first problems of presbyopia and prevent any pathologies, such as glaucoma.
